So my first digital SLR (DSLR) was the Canon D300 Rebel (one of the very first consumer-grade DSLRs), for which I paid $1000 (with a 18-55mm kit lens). Just went on Ebay and found this same camera model for sale from Robetrs Camera for a whopping $21! Not exactly Hasselblad value!

You have to work things like this to your advantage, I have a pair of M42 screw mount Mamiya SLR's with 35mm, 50mm, 135mm and 300mm lenses. Back when these were new they would have cost over $5000 altogether, I paid less than $200 for everything. smile

Back-when as a 16-year-old, my budget couldn't allow Nikon system prices so I went with Mirandas. Still have a boatload of Miranda/Soligor gear, alas all inert now. Repairing them would be absurdly expensive compared to actual value.

My first SLR was a fixed-lens Mamiya, a 50mm ∱2.8, BTW.
