A memory brought out after reading Basil's issue with his external hard drive (literal) crash:

As a young budding photojournalist with a new Miranda G, it was always close to hand. On one occasion it was sitting on a desk, neck strap hung over the edge. Someone said in an excited voice: "You gotta SEE this!" On gripping the lens to take the camera with me, the strap caught on a drawer pull and yanked the camera from my grip, slamming it to the floor. Camera inop and lost to a repair process for weeks. Plus expense. From that point on the straps were wound around the lens any time a camera equipped with one was set down ANYWHERE.
